Growing Without Losing Control” report on Radio Intereconomía

LEIALTA’s founding partner and managing director, Javier Martínez, recently appeared on Radio Intereconomía’s A Media Sesión, where he was interviewed by journalist Ángeles Lozano to discuss the main findings of the report “Growing Without Losing Control”, prepared by LEIALTA based on its annual survey of B2B clients.

During the interview, Javier Martínez highlighted one of the report’s central ideas: growth no longer means simply selling more. In today’s business environment, many companies face the challenge of growing without losing margin, internal control or management capacity.

The report shows that 76% of the companies surveyed acknowledge that they spend too much time on administrative and management tasks, a burden that limits strategic focus and reduces the resources available for business growth.

Administrative burden: an invisible cost for companies

One of the main topics addressed during the interview was the impact of administrative workload on day-to-day business management. Javier Martínez pointed out that many companies do not have a problem with ambition, but rather with time and structure.

Administrative tasks, the monitoring of obligations, internal documentation and adaptation to new regulatory requirements consume resources that could otherwise be allocated to strategic, commercial or growth-related decisions.

In this regard, LEIALTA’s managing director explained that administrative burden has become an invisible cost: it is not always directly reflected in the income statement, but it affects productivity, slows down processes and makes decision-making more difficult.

Costs, regulation and internal structure: the main areas of concern

During his appearance on Radio Intereconomía, Javier Martínez also discussed other relevant findings from the report. Among the main concerns identified by the companies surveyed, labour costs stand out, mentioned by 43%; regulatory changes, mentioned by 39%; and lack of time or internal structure, also mentioned by 39%.

These challenges are followed by profitability and margins, growth and sales, tax burden, people management and financing.

The study also shows that 62% of the companies surveyed state that they have experienced an increase in costs over the past year, particularly in areas related to staff, suppliers, raw materials, energy, taxes and the investment required to sustain business activity.

Compliance is no longer just an administrative issue

Another key point discussed during the interview was the growing complexity of the regulatory environment. More than half of the companies surveyed believe that complying with their tax, labour and legal obligations is now more complex than it was a few years ago.

For Javier Martínez, this finding shows that regulatory compliance has ceased to be a merely administrative matter and has become a strategic factor. Companies not only need to comply; they also need to understand how changes affect them, when they need to act and what decisions they must take in order to anticipate potential risks.

Growing with greater control, planning and anticipation

The interview also explored one of the report’s main conclusions: sustainable business growth increasingly requires planning, control and the ability to anticipate.

At LEIALTA, the firm emphasises that selling more does not always mean earning more if a company does not properly review its costs, margins, internal structure and obligations.

In this context, having access to useful information and an integrated view of tax, accounting, labour, legal and corporate matters is key to making decisions with greater confidence.

The role of consultancy: translating complexity into decisions

During the interview, Javier Martínez also highlighted the role of business consultancies in an increasingly complex environment. As he explained, companies do not simply need to receive information; they need to understand how it affects them, what decisions they should take and when they should take them.

To illustrate this, he used a clear metaphor: managing a company without planning, structure or specialised advice can be like trying to drive a mountain rally in a car with no brakes, no co-driver and no technical team to prepare the vehicle.

In this sense, consultancies such as LEIALTA act as “translators” for companies: they turn tax, labour, legal and corporate information into clear and actionable guidance, helping businesses anticipate risks, adapt to change and grow with greater control.
